The hCG injection

Ultrasound of well developed follicles.

  • If the ultrasound indicates sufficient numbers of well developed follicles, the DM will order the hCG-injection to be given. This will trigger ovulation.
  • As of this point, you stop with the stimulation injections of rec-FSH or hMG and - if that was the case - with the use of agonists or antagonists (suppression).
  • Because hCG triggers ovulation, the pick-up will be performed 36 hours after the injection - that is just before the ovulation occurs. To ensure that the pick-up can take place during the day, the hCG injection is given during the night. The DM will decide the

  • The next morning, a blood test is performed to see if the hCG injection has been effective.
  • That same day, you must start inserting vaginal pessaries containing progesterone (see preparing for pregnancy).
