Prof. Dr. Tournaye appointed as CRG Head of Dept

On October 13th 2011 UZ Brussel said goodbye to Prof. dr. Paul Devroey as Head of the Centrum voor Reproductieve Geneeskunde (Centre for Reproductive Medicine). Prof. Devroey was the founder of the CRG in 1983 and, working alongside Prof. dr. em. Van Steirteghem, became a world pioneer in the field of reproductive medicine.
Prof. Devroey recently turned 65 and is now handing the baton to a leading colleague at the CRG, Prof. dr. Tournaye.

Herman Tournaye qualified as a gynaecologist in 1991 at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, started work at the CRG immediately afterwards and has built up an impressive CV since that time. Here is a very brief selection:

Prof. Tournaye has taught developmental biology, embryology and reproductive medicine at the VUB faculteit Geneeskunde (Faculty of Medicine) for more than ten years.  He is the founder and driving force behind the research group BITE (Biology of the Testis) at the VUB and leads the Andrology Training Centre of the European Academy of Andrology (EAA) in Brussels. He is also a clinical tutor for the EBCOG (European Board and College of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology), a specialist and subspecialist training body in reproductive medicine at the VUB.
On the academic side, Herman Tournaye is Professor of the faculteit Geneeskunde en Farmacie (Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy) and Chair of the facultaire commissie communicatie en voorlichting (Faculty Committee for Communication and Public Education). He is also a Board member of onderzoeksfonds Willy Gepts (Willy Gepts Research Fund) and the onderzoeksraad (Research Council) of the medical campus.

In the area of governance, Prof. dr. Tournaye is Chair of the Belgian Society for Reproductive Medicine (BSRM). He is a member of the Educational Board of the European Academy of Andrology (EAA) and also recently joined the board of the Infertility Guidelines Group of the European Association of Urology (EAU). He is a former Chair of the Special Interest Group on Andrology (SIGA) of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).

Finally, Prof. Tournaye still serves as an expert in the following foundations: the Instituut voor de Aanmoediging van innovatie door Wetenschap en Technologie in Vlaanderen (IWT, Belgium), the Agence de la Biomédecine (France), the Société d'Andrologie de Langue Française (France), the Programme National de Recherche en Réproduction et Endocrinologie INSERM (France), the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Germany) and the Nederlandse Kankerstichting (the Netherlands).
