Arrangements regarding the Start of Stimulation
General rule Please contact the planning coordinator in all cases where a definite start date has not yet been decided upon at a consultation at the CRG. The sooner in advance you do this, the greater the chances are that you'll be able to start at the time you wish. |
There is a very important date on the medication scheme belonging to an IVF treatment: that is the date on which the woman may commence with the hormonal stimulation phase of the treatment. We refer to this date as the reserved start date. Until this date has been established, your treatment plan will not be registered at the CRG and you will not be able to start.
Why?
We wish to ensure optimum quality in every treatment cycle that takes place within our centre. Therefore do we not only take great care in the support of our patients, but also in the process of in-vitro fertilization: with other words, the lab work.
A number of
quality control procedures ensure that the laboratory results are as perfect as they possibly can be. But quality takes time. Therefore the number of procedures which can be performed on any given day is restricted. It is therefore necessary to formulate strict planning methods, beginning with the start date. All other stages of your treatment will depend on this date.
Practical aspects
If the IVF treatment you are undergoing is your first, the start date will be determined during a meeting with your counsellor and written on the treatment scheme that you will receive.
If the treatment is unsuccessful and you wish to start a new treatment cycle, a new start date will be determined by your doctor and counsellor.
Yes or no?
In both cases it might be, that you don't decide on a concrete (new) start date, and that a provisional date is chosen. If this is the case, you will need to confirm this new start date before you begin taking the stimulation medicine again.
The same goes for an interruption or stop to your treatment. Occasionally, unwanted side effects lead to the treatment having to be discontinued. In the name of quality, it is sometimes deemed appropriate to interrupt a treatment cycle and recommence at a later date, in which case a new start date must be arranged.
There is no point in you taking stimulation drugs without a specific start date having been established and agreed upon. In any situation where your start date should not have been laid down during your consultation or should have to be changed afterwards, it is advisable to contact the planning officer as soon as possible, in order to plan the start of your treatment depending on your cycle.
