Practical issues concerning tests and procedures

All procedures and tests, for both men and women, performed at the CRG, come with practical issues.

The HyFoSy practical
(Hystero Foam Sonography)

The procedure is performed at the CRG Consultation department, by appointment.
Medication needs to be taken before the procedure, see the HyFoSy instruction form.
Upon arrival you register at the Registration desk of the Child hospital of UZ Brussel, entrance F, route 990.
Belgian patients must bring their electronic identity card. Foreign patients must bring their passport.
Belgian patients can also register at the kiosk in the entrance hall.
At the agreed time go to the ultrasound waiting room, Consultation CRG, route 982.
The procedure is without anaesthetic and on an outpatient basis.
The treating doctor will immediately discuss the result with you.

This examination is performed on an outpatient basis in the Operating theatre of the CRG, by appointment.
We will call you one day in advance to tell you the exact time you are expected.
Upon arrival you register at Admission's desk of the Child hospital of UZ Brussel, entrance F, route 990.
Belgian patients must bring their electronic identity card. Foreign patients must bring their passport.
For this examination you cannot register at a kiosk.
After the procedure, which only takes about 15 minutes you can go home immediately.
The results of the hysteroscopy are given to your CRG doctor, who discusses them with you.

A therapeutic hysteroscopy is performed under either general, or epidural anaesthetic.
The CRG will give you an instruction form about how to prepare for the procedure.

Upon arrival you register (see Registration at UZ Brussel for opening hours):
- for a day admission at the Admissions desk of the Child hospital, entrance F, route 990;
- in case of an overnight stay at the Admissions desk of UZ Brussel, entrance A, route 151.
You will be given a room in a Nursing ward to prepare for the procedure:
- for a day admission at VPE 03 of the CRG, entrance F, route 972;
- for longer admissions, at a nursing ward of UZ Brussel, entrance A.
Usually you can go home the same day (day admission), but sometimes you may have to stay overnight after the procedure (hospitalisation).
You have to be accompanied and you are not allowed to drive.
Also should also not spend the night following an operation under general anaesthetic alone.

Laparoscopy, also purely diagnostic, is always performed under general anaesthetic, and thus requires a day admission or a hospitalisation.

Upon arrival you register at Admission's desk of the Child hospital of UZ Brussel, entrance F, route 990.
Belgian patients must bring their electronic identity card. Foreign patients must bring their passport.
Belgian patients can also register at the kiosk in the entrance hall.
Bring the registration document to the CRG nursing ward, VPE03, Entrance F, route 972.
Here you are prepared for the procedure and you are returned to after the procedure to recover.
In case of a diagnostic laparoscopy you can go home the same day.
You have to be accompanied and you are not allowed to drive.
Also should also not spend the night following an operation under general anaesthetic alone.

Laparoscopy is always performed under general anaesthetic, and thus requires a day admission or a hospitalisation.
In most cases a therapeutic laparoscopy involves an overnight stay, the night before the operation.
- If it concerns an extensive procedure or if a longer post-operative observation is recommended,you may be required to stay an extra night.
- In exceptional circumstances, you may not be required to come in on the previous evening for a therapeutic laparoscopy.
  In this case, it concerns a day admission and the same procedure for a diagnostic laparoscopy applies (see infra).

Please register at the admissions desk in the main building of UZ Brussel, entrance A, route 151.
You will be given a room in a UZ Brussel nursing ward, where you will undergo specific bowel preparations.
After the procedure you are brought back to your room.
After a few hours of rest, you can usually go home the same day.
You have to be accompanied and you are not allowed to drive. Also should also not spend the night following an operation under general anaesthetic alone.
