Why do I need to complete informed consent forms before starting treatment?

Medically assisted reproduction and the use of genetic material (oocytes, sperm and embryos) are governed by Belgian law. We cannot therefore process your genetic material unless we have a certain number of explicit agreements. Before any treatment begins, you will therefore sign informed consents (ICs) and contracts with us in order to reach the necessary agreements and give your consent to the treatment. If you are undergoing treatment as a couple, the agreement of both partners will be required.

In these informed consents, you will also decide on various aspects of the treatment, f.e.

  • the destination of the embryos after the legal storage period of 5 years
  • cooperation in scientific research
  • the use of donor material
